The Wall

Wall guidelines

Effective October 17, 2026

The Wall is a place to leave a few kind words for a stranger who is having a hard day. You send one note, and a note from someone else comes back to you. Everyone who reads it is carrying something. Please write the note you would want to find.

Write it like a letter to someone you will never meet, but would like to help.

one note in, one note out

Be kind

Encourage, comfort, pray, give thanks. No insults, mockery, harassment, hate, sexual content, shouting in capitals, or anything that encourages someone to hurt themselves.

Stay anonymous

No names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, links or social handles, yours or anyone else's. Notes that contain them do not travel. The person who receives your note sees only your country.

No promotion

No ads, fundraising, selling, or recruiting to groups, pages or channels.

No tolerance for abuse

There is no tolerance on the Wall for objectionable content or abusive users. Notes that break these guidelines are removed, and their senders are barred from the Wall. Before you send your first note, the app asks you to agree to these guidelines.

If you are struggling

The Wall is not a crisis service, and no one reads notes as they are sent. If you are thinking about hurting yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line now. In the US, call or text 988. You deserve help from someone who can be with you.

How we keep it safe

Every note is checked automatically before it travels, and notes with unkind words, sexual content, threats, contact details or promotion do not travel. You can send up to five notes a day.

Report a note. Every note from a stranger has a Report option: the small … button beside it, or press and hold it on the Wall. A reported note disappears from your phone at once, and it is taken out of the Wall for everyone while we review it. Reporting a note also blocks its sender for you.

Block a sender. Choose “Don’t show notes from this person” and no note from that sender will reach you again. They are not told, and we never share who sent a note.

We act within 24 hours. We review every report within 24 hours. We remove notes that break these guidelines and bar their senders, and we may remove any note, at any time, to keep the Wall a gentle place.

Questions, a note you want removed, or something we should know: write to us through the contact form at ofamjournal.com/#support. See also our privacy policy.
